Learn To Fly

Learning to fly is not as difficult as many people would think. It is almost as simple as get out there and do it. There are a lot of things you the student need to be aware of though. You can end up spending thousands of extra dollars if you aren't careful.

COST: The cost will vary depending on where you are doing your flight training. There are many different types of schools and there are many other options to you in addition to a traditional flight school. I Tell people to plan on at least $7,500. This estimate is based on my rates and the rental rates of the aircraft that I use. Some areas of the country will be cheaper than others but the hours you will need to fly will not change. You need to find the aircraft and instructor rates in your area.

HOURS: The hours required by the FAA is 40 but in most cases this is not realistic. The national average for private pilots is about 65. most flight schools will only quote you the 40 required by the FAA so you want to look at the training process a little closer to find out what you are really going to spend.

TIMEFRAME: A realistic timeframe for the private pilot certificate is about 3 months. You can do all the training in as little as a month though. You have to be consistent with your flying. Many people will let other things get in their way and as a result, end up spending thousands of extra dollars
